Vayikra/And He called
Leviticus 1:1-6:7
Isaiah 43:21-44:23
What a privilege it is to serve the Only, True and Living God! A God Who is not far off; though so holy, no one can come near and live; yet He desires our hearts, for His heart daily, as we approach, covered in the blood of His Precious Son; which He gave on our behalf…”for the joy set before Him”. Words fail us all to even try to utter worthy praises of One like our God and Father and yet He loves the sound of our voices. I find myself a bit undone after reading this week’s haftorah (Isaiah 43:21-44:23), one of my favorite portions of scripture. So rather than trying to share with you even a measure of what I believe is here for us to partake of, I instead invite you to slowly, even repetitively read it; but not for theological understanding (though there is much here), but for tears!
Yes tears, which I know I am in great need of.
Read and let the words ‘breathe’ and exhale the Heart of the Lord of Glory upon you. Let yourself feel His Great Majesty and the offer of His Heart to you. I don’t want to cheat you by just repeating my experience; this is for you today and every day you take the time to allow yourself the pleasure of His company in these verses (or any verses for that matter). He has always wanted a royal priesthood and a holy nation; not just a priestly class; Jesus has come to assure Him of His desire for a people. Don’t be in a hurry; don’t work up false emotions or condemnation; allow for your heart to break and heal at the same time; He awaits your presence, with His. When you are done you will appreciate the last verse:
“Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it! Shout, you lower parts of the earth; Break forth into singing, you mountains, O forest, and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, And glorified Himself in Israel.” by john eisner
